Welcome to AgriBio
AgriBio, Centre For AgriBioscience is a joint initiative of the Government of Victoria,through the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI), and La Trobe University (La Trobe).
AgriBio is one of Australia's premier biosciences facilities, with a key emphasis on supporting and protecting Victoria's A$11.6 billion agricultural sector by focussing on cutting-edge research to;
- improve productivity
- fight disease and
- reduce environmental impact.
The facility is located at La Trobe’s Melbourne campus in Bundoora, and accommodates over 400 DEPI and La Trobe staff, including scientists students, and business and science-support staff.
A $A288 million public private partnership (PPP), AgriBio was delivered under the Victorian Government’s Partnerships Victoria policy. DEPI and La Trobe engaged Major Projects Victoria, a division of the Victorian Department of State Development, Business and Innovation (DSDBI), to manage procurement, design and construction of AgriBio on behalf of the Joint Venture parties up to commercial acceptance.
Plenary Research - consisting of Plenary Group, Grocon and Honeywell Limited - have designed, constructed, financed and will provide facility management services required for the operation of AgriBio over a 25-year period.
Design and construction of AgriBio commenced in May 2009. AgriBio is fully operational as of 2013.
